Just a few things going on in my brain. So here we go.
Ken Griffey Jr.
22 seasons in Major League baseball and my favorite player of all time (except for that little bit of time with the White Sox, lol) has decided to hang it up. Some of my best childhood memories revolve around the Seattle Mariners. I had to fortune to go to a lot of M's game as a kid thanks to my friend Pat Fancher. We sat just behind home plates in seats that pretty much ruined me forever, who wants to sit in cheap seats!! One of my best birthdays of all time was spent in Seattle. My Dad showed up to surprise me and take in the game with me after working all day in Oregon and driving the 5 hours. What a great time. I can't think Junior for all the great memories. Amazing catches, over 600 home runs, and the 1995 Playoff win over the Yankees.
Coach John Wooden
What more can be said about the great UCLA basketball coach. I doubt I could do the Wizard of Westwood justice. He lived an amazing life and was an incredible coach. I doubt there are many coaches that have not been influenced by Coach Wooden. He never had a losing season and had 4 straight undefeated seasons. He led the UCLA Bruins to 10 National Championships and walked away on top after 1975. The great thing is from the stories you hear he was an even better man than he was a coach. He would have been 100 years old in October. What a tremendous life and leader of young men.
Everything Else
So we are working on hard on our lifestyle changes. Things are continuing to go well. We treated ourselves to some BBQ today but were much more smart about what we ordered and how much we ate. We had a great meal and it was a nice change up from our hard work. We know this is a long term change and not an easy one. But the first week is in the bag and its the first of a long road. I think we are both already starting to feel better. I will continue to keep you all updated.
Went to see Get Him To the Greek at the theater the other afternoon. Very funny stuff! Russel Brand and Jonah Hill have great chemistry on screen and it was tons of laughs. Diddy with a nice comedic showing as well. Big thumbs up.
So it seems that the heat has been cranked on up to 11 here in Oklahoma. Saturday was up over 100 on the heat index. Nicki played a show out at SunFest here in Bartlesville and probably over did it a little bit. She was feeling the heat but we got her in the AC and some nice cold water and she was okay. The band did really well and were asked back to play next year.
That is it for now back to watching season 1 of Modern Family. It is hysterical! Talk to ya!
